The actual main difference in between body language and paralanguage is that body language can be observed or communication through it can take place by seeing, whereas in paralanguage you need to hear the speech to interpret the message.
It is the type of non-verbal communication in which exchange of information takes place through the conscious or unconscious movement of body, postures, gestures or facial expressions. Apart from the gestures or postures, facial expressions are also the important mean of communication in body language. The nodding of the head is one of the body movement that can show acceptance or refusal without much work.
For instance, when a friend of yours ask you about going out for a hangout, you just nod the head either to accept or reject the deal. On the other hand, facial expressions is another aspect of facial expressions that carries on diverse meaning, opening up to different interpretations.
So while communicating these cues are more important as compared to words, so the person should be able to understand these clues. The study of Para Language is called paralinguistics. Many people like motivational speakers, a person giving a presentation, or a person while public speaking needs to understand the importance of Para Language as listeners also observe paralinguistic cues of the speaker.
So, studying Para Language can help them to become a good speaker. Communication is a two-way process, which requires both sender and receiver to complete the communication process. Whichever method is used sender just encodes the message, and the receiver needs to decode the message. This process can be done using many methods, and these methods are made up of many components. Non Verbal Communication is used to express messages, ideas, and feelings using different components like eye contact, signals, gestures, postures, body language, etc.
It is a communication method without words. And Para Language is just a component of communication method that uses the change in voice tone, pitch, intonation, etc.
She explains that men are not as good at reading body language cues as women because they use different areas of their brain when decoding. Verbal communication is exclusive to the users of a particular language dialect, whereas some nonverbal communication is recognized across cultures.
Although cultures most certainly have particular meanings and uses for nonverbal communication, there are universal nonverbal behaviors that almost everyone recognizes. For instance, people around the world recognize and use expressions such as smiles, frowns, and the pointing of a finger at an object. Note: Not all nonverbal gestures are universal! For example, if you travel to different regions of the world, find out what is appropriate!
